Lisa lives in Christchurch and uses a mixture of screen printing and reverse painting on perspex to create her fabulous artworks.

Girl In The Mirror (Ballerina 2) has iridescent paint, so the colours change and shift when you look at it from different angles. The photos don’t capture the depth of this painting. It is framed in black wood and measures 53cm wide by 73cm high.

Who we were before the world told us who to be.

The Girl in the Mirror captures the raw honesty of childhood – the playful defiance, curiosity, and unapologetic spirit we often lose as we grow older. Standing before her reflection the child is not performing for the world around her; she is simply, just being herself.

The vintage mirror becomes symbolic of self-perception and identity, reflecting not only her image, but the untouched authenticity of the inner child. Soft light and delicate tones create a feeling of warmth and nostalgia, while her expression carries both innocence and quiet strength.

This series speaks to the part of ourselves that once existed without shame or self-doubt – before the world taught us to shrink, silence, or seek approval.

Let this be a gentle reminder to reconnect with that spirit within; the one who dared to take-up space, pull silly faces, and love themselves without question.
